AL Man Threw Lumber At Police During Jan. 6 Capitol Riot: FBI

Federal agents arrested Dillon Herrington at a home in Madison on Tuesday. He faces multiple charges in connection with the Capitol riot.

ACROSS ALABAMA — Special agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested another Alabama man Tuesday in connection with the Capitol riot that took place Jan. 6. Dillon Colby Herrington was taken into custody at a home in Madison and faces the following charges, according to the U.S. Department of Justice:

  • Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority
  • Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds
  • Knowingly Engage in any act of Physical Violence Against any Person or Property in a Restricted Building
  • Willfully and Knowingly Engage in an act of Physical Violence in the Grounds of the Capitol Building
  • Commit or Attempt any act to Obstruct, Impede or Interfere with Law Enforcement in Performance of his Official Duties
  • Forcible Assault, Resist, Oppose, Impede, Intimidate, or Interfere with Law Enforcement

A criminal complaint states that surveillance footage captured Herrington on two separate occasions attempting to strike Capitol police with objects. Federal authorities said Herrington was seen throwing a wooden 4”x 4” piece of lumber in the direction of officers.

Another video shows Herrington holding a metal barricade and throwing it in the direction of police, according to the FBI.

Officers were not injured in either of the two incidents involving Herrington, federal authorities said.

A tipster, who is also a member of law enforcement and has known Herrington for about 17 years, ultimately reported him to the FBI on May 6, according to the criminal complaint.

Herrington makes the tenth person from Alabama to be charged in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
