After more than four decades representing Alabama in Congress, Sen. Richard Shelby announced in February that he would not seek re-election. Shelby, who turned 87 in May, has served in the U.S. Senate longer than any senator from Alabama.
A native of Enterprise, Britt received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama, where she also served as president of the Student Government Association.
