Pier 1 Imports To Close 5 Alabama Stores In 2020
Five of the 10 Alabama Pier 1 Imports locations will close in 2020, according to the company.

FORT WORTH, TX — Pier 1 Imports, which announced it at the beginning of the year it would close up to 450 locations nationwide, will close several Alabama locations. The Texas-based retail chain announced the stores would be closed to "better align its business with the current operating environment."
The company will close five of its 10 Alabama stores in 2020, and plans to close certain distribution centers and lower its corporate spending, as well as lay off workers at the corporate level.
Last week, Business Insider reported the chain erased 260 locations from its website and that there's strong evidence the retailer plans to close those stores. Pier 1 also confirmed on Facebook that stores removed from the website will be closing, telling a customer, "If you have any questions about stores in your area, you can visit Pier1.com and enter your zip code at the top of the page. Closing locations have been removed from this list."

Robert Riesbeck, Pier 1's Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, said in a statement, "Although decisions that impact our associates are never easy, reducing the number of our brick-and-mortar locations is a necessary business decision. We thank our team of hard-working associates for their commitment to Pier 1 and to serving our customers."
