15-Year-Old Birmingham High School Student Killed in Ensley Shooting

High school student Terrius Hilliard was killed Wednesday evening in a shooting on the corner of Ensley and 15th.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A 15-year-old was shot and killed on Ensley Avenue early Wednesday evening. The victim, Terrius Hilliard, was a student at Jackson-Olin High School.

At 5:14 p.m. Wednesday, Hilliard and another young man were heading for the recreation center on Ensley when an assailant opened fire at the two from a moving vehicle at the corner of Ensley and 15th. Hilliard was shot in the chest and tried to escape before succumbing to his wounds. He was taken to UAB Hospital and pronounced dead at 5:44 p.m.

Three potential suspects have been taken into custody after attempting to elude arrest in Ensley and wrecking their vehicle in the process. The suspects names have yet to be released. Authorities stated that Hilliard may have been targeted.

Hilliard was one of two homicides in the Ensley area on Wednesday. Doris Gooden, 88, was found dead in her home off of Avenue D and pronounced dead at the scene after her family and friends were unable to locate her for 24 hours. No charges have been announced.
