ALDOT Removing Lane Closures On Interstates For Holiday Travel

To ease the burden of 4th of July travel, the Alabama Department of Transportation will remove temporary lane closures on the interstates.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The 4th of July is one of the busiest holidays of the year when it comes to travel, especially when the 4th falls in the middle of the week like this year - meaning more people are traveling on the same day rather than on the weekend days. To ease some of the traffic congestion expected Tuesday and Wednesday, the Alabama Department of Transportation is removing its temporary lane closures during thew peak travel times.

A statement from ALDOT said, "As an added precaution during the heavily traveled Fourth of July holiday, ALDOT is doing its part for road safety by having no temporary lane closures on Alabama interstates after noon on Tuesday, July 3, through midnight Wednesday, July 4."

Although ALDOT construction work zones will not be active during the holiday, work-zone materials along the road and reduced speed limits will be in effect in many areas. "Drivers taking to Alabama roads for the Fourth should allow extra time to reach their destination," the ALDOT statement said.
