BIRMINGHAM, AL — After a yearlong hiatus, the Birmingham Barons plan to be back in action, as the team released its schedule for the 2021 season. The Barons, along with all of Minor League Baseball, had to cancel the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Barons will open the season at home with a six-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday, May 4. It will represent Birmingham’s first time since 2015 in which its home opener has doubled as the season opener.

"We’re thrilled to announce our 2021 schedule and look forward to continuing the magic we started at Regions Field in 2013," Barons GM Jonathan Nelson said. "We look forward to providing more details like our game times, promotional schedule, team information, COVID-related safety measures and more as we get closer to Opening Day on May 4th."

Following their opening series against the Shuckers, the Barons will hit the road for a six-game series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos from May 11-16.

The new schedule reflects some changes that Major League Baseball has made with the MiLB format. One change is that the 2021 Double-A South (formerly the Southern League) season will not feature an All-Star Game or post-season playoffs.

Also, longer homestands and series are included in this year's schedule.

Birmingham will enjoy two extended homestands of 12 games apiece during the season. The first starting with the Blue Wahoos between June 22-27, followed by a series against the Chattanooga Lookouts from June 29-July 4. The second extended homestand will see the Barons host the Mississippi Braves from August 3-8, followed up with a series against the Lookouts from August 10-15.

The Barons will conclude the 2021 regular season with a six-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits between September 14-19.

Individual game tickets for the 2021 season will be available within the coming months, as Regions Field safely prepares for fans to return to the ballpark. Start times for both home and away games will be determined at a later time.
