Birmingham City Schools To Offer Free Summer Program For Students

Students wishing to catch up after a difficult year amid the coronavirus pandemic can attend a free summer program.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The 2020-21 school year has been one of the most challenging years in recent memory amid the coronavirus pandemic, and many students may have found themselves falling behind, which is why Birmingham City Schools will offer a free summer program to help students recover from possible learning loss.

Superintendent Mark Sullivan announced Monday that summer opportunities will include classes led by seasoned educators and other opportunities through community partners.

"Birmingham, like most school districts throughout the country, face challenges because of disruptions brought on by COVID-19," Sullivan said. "But, some of our scholars we know face challenges even before the pandemic began, so we have our work cut out for us."
