Fatal Birmingham Shooting: 6th Shooting Death in 48 Hours

A man was shot and killed Monday afternoon in Birmingham, the 6th shooting death in the city in 48 hours.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man was shot and killed Monday afternoon in Birmingham, which was the sixth shooting death in the city in a 48-hour span. The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. at a home in the 7700 block of 6th Avenue South.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Tavarius Hampton, was reportedly seen leaving bag on the porch of the home, and was approached by the occupants of the home, according to Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department. An altercation among the men escalated into gunfire, Mauldin said, and the Hampton was shot.

Hampton was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mauldin said the two other men involved in the altercation have been detained and questioned.
