BIRMINGHAM, AL — Although the week has been somewhat dry in Alabama, the coming weekend is expected to be pretty soggy, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rain is expected for most of the state throughout the weekend, bringing a chance of flooding an a possible tornado.

A tropical depression system will move into the northern half of the state Saturday morning, and rain is likely through Monday as the system moves through.

"The rain could be heavy at times, and a brief, isolated tornado can’t be ruled out Sunday, especially over the southern counties," Meteorologist James Spann said. "Rain amounts of 4-7 inches are likely over south Alabama, with 2-4 inches over the northern half of the state. Some flooding is very possible."
