JeffCo Students May Soon Return To Classroom
Students in the Jefferson County school district may soon return to in-person learning after starting the year at home.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — After starting the 2020-21 school year learning from home, students in Jefferson County schools may soon get to return to the classroom. An announcement by superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin Tuesday indicated that he and the school board will consider a return to the classroom sooner than expected.
Jefferson County Schools started Sept. 1, and planned to spend the first nine weeks of the school year on a virtual learning platform, but Gonsoulin said in Tuesday's board meeting that the system may switch to a hybrid learning platform before the end of the first nine weeks.
However, as many school systems in the metro Birmingham area have done, the system could switch to a virtual/on-campus hybrid model, which would start with pre-K, then K-5th grade, then finally expand to 6-12th grades, according to a release by the school system.
