62-Year-Old Man Killed In South Birmingham Shooting

A shooting in south Birmingham Wednesday night resulted in a fatality, Birmingham's 34th homicide investigation of the year.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham's 34th homicide investigation of 2021 is underway after a shooting in south Birmingham resulted in a fatality. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. in the 800 block of 46th Street North.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department said South Precinct officers received an alert from ShotSpotter of shots fired in the area, and found a gunshot victim dead in the parking lot. Police identified the victim as Perry Lee Mixon, 62, of Birmingham.

Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation suggests that shots were fired at the victim from a vehicle that then left the scene.
