Man Shot, Killed At 'Illegal Shot House' in Birmingham: Police

Police are searching for a suspect who they say fatally shot a man early Saturday at a home in Ensley.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man is dead following a Saturday morning shooting at what officials are calling an "illegal shot house" in Ensley, according to police.

Rodriguez Valides Holt, 44, of Birmingham, was found dead after police responded to a home at 2722 Avenue J shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday. When police arrived, they said they found Holt laying on the floor, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.

First responders pronounced Holt dead at the scene, police said.

A preliminary investigation into the shooting found that Holt and several others were at a party at the home when a fight broke out. Police said Holt was involved in an argument with the suspect when the suspect shot him and fled.

During the investigation, police also discovered the home was being used as an illegal shot house, or a home where alcohol was being illegally sold.

Police said they are still searching for a suspect in the shooting.
