Man Shot By Police During Fairfield Drug Investigation
A man was shot by a Birmingham police officer while police were searching a Fairfield home in a drug investigation.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A drug investigation Thursday by Birmingham police resulted in a man being shot by an officer. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at a home at 5317 Acadia Terrace in Fairfield.
The man shot was considered a suspect in the investigation, according to Birmingham PD, and was taken to UAB Hospital after the incident to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham PD said officers were immediately confronted with gunfire from the suspect when they arrived on the scene. "Officers returned fire striking the suspect," Mauldin said. "Lifesaving medical aid was immediately administered by officers prior to the arrival of Birmingham Fire and Rescue."
