Here is a list of what is open and closed in the Birmingham metro on MLK Day 2020.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Although Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday is January 15, the national holiday falls on the 2oth this year, and many of the Birmingham metro's municipal services will be closed.

In addition to being a national holiday, the day is also a National Day of Service, and Hands On Birmingham has several opportunities to help in the community here.

Here is the status of some of the offices and services for MLK Day:

  • Federal offices - Closed
  • State offices - Closed
  • City and county offices (excluding police, fire and 911) - Closed
  • Courts - Closed
  • U.S. Post Office - Closed, no service
  • Fed Ex - Open, normal pick-up and delivery schedule
  • UPS - Open, normal pick-up and delivery
  • Banks - Closed
  • Stores and malls - Open
  • Stock markets - Closed
  • Schools and universities - Closed
  • Birmingham Public Libraries - Closed
  • Trash pick-up - Most will be suspended
  • Public transportation- Limited or moderated service
  • National Parks - Open, and parks that charge admission will waive costs on MLK Day.
