BIRMINGHAM, AL — Mother's Day could turn out to be a rainy one in the Birmingham area, as the National Weather Service has most of Jefferson County in a marginal risk category for severe weather.

The threat level for severe weather Sunday currently places Birmingham at risk of heavy rain, lightning, hail and damaging winds.

"We're just as tired as y'all are in terms of dealing with severe weather around here - but we've got another chance for severe storms coming up Sun afternoon thru Sun night, especially for northwest counties," the NWS in Birmingham said in a statement Saturday. "Damaging winds and maybe some hail are main hazards currently."
