Mountain Brook Man Dies After Gulf Shores Lightning Strike

Taylor Harsh died early Monday after being struck by lightning in Gulf Shores.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A Mountain Brook native who was struck by lightning on a beach in Gulf Shores died early Monday, according to AL.com. Taylor Harsh, 24, died at UAB Hospital where he was being treated in the aftermath of the accident. He attended Mountain Brook High School and was an alumnus of the University of Alabama.

Harsh and five of his friends were injured by a lightning strike Saturday as they headed into their house from the beach. Oliver Brown, one of Harsh's friends, told AL.com that the storm was unanticipated and cropped up quickly. All six men were knocked unconscious by the strike, but Harsh remained unconscious even as the others came to. Harsh was evacuated from South Baldwin Regional Medical Center to UAB Hospital after life-saving measures failed.

Harsh's friend Stephen Clark was also severely injured but is expected to make a full recovery.
