Pizitz Food Hall Tenant Announces Closure Of Storefront
A family-owned company known for soups and specialty foods will shift to wholesale opportunities, and no longer operate its storefront.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Spoon & Ladle, a family-owned company known to Birmingham for its soup and specialty food offerings, announced its intention Monday to focus exclusively on wholesale efforts, resulting in the decision to retire its lease in the Pizitz Food Hall.
The company opened its storefront in the Pizitz Food Hall during the summer of 2019.
“Our decision to not renew our lease in the Pizitz Food Hall was a conscious one: we simply want to focus all of our energy and effort on our wholesale business,” said Kelly Todd, co-owner and business manager of Spoon & Ladle. “We’ve seen great success partnering with local eateries and grocers to market our products across central Alabama, and now we want to be sure we’re best positioned to grow that arm of our business further throughout the state.”

Spoon & Ladle has been active in the wholesale sector since 2014. The company currently works with a variety of Birmingham-area stores and restaurants, including Piggly Wiggly, Harvest Market, Beef O’Brady’s and Great Harvest Bread Company. The company is also a frequent participant in the Market at Pepper Place, as well as the owner of a Spoon & Ladle retail outlet in Pelham. None of these activities will be affected by the shift in the organization’s business strategy.
“While our location in the Pizitz Food Hall will no longer be our everyday focus, we have appreciated the support we’ve received from the Food Hall’s management and from our loyal fans,” said Monty Todd, co-owner and executive chef of Spoon & Ladle. “We’re excited about the new opportunities that wholesale has in store for us and feel comforted knowing that Spoon & Ladle enthusiasts will still be able to easily find and purchase their favorite products.”
