Suspect Who Eluded Marshals In East Birmingham Captured
Authorities arrested an 18-year-old attempted murder suspect at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Authorities arrested an 18-year-old attempted murder suspect at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa a few hours after eluding U.S. marshals in northeast Birmingham, according to multiple reports.
Kaia Fortune was wanted on two counts of attempted murder and fled from a home in northeast Birmingham after marshals arrived to arrest him. Fortune was arrested at the hospital about 2:30 p.m., WVTM 13 News reported.
The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force was trying to serve a warrant on Fortune when he eluded marshals. The incident occurred in the 500 block of Orchid Road off of Five Mile Road about 11 a.m.

Fortune nearly hit one of the task force officers with his vehicle as he fled. The officer was injured while moving out of the way, but was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday. U.S. Marshals say Fortune was shot as officers fired their weapons at the scene.
Authorities say Fortune's injuries are non-life-threatening. He remains at the hospital.

Neighbors told WVTM 13 they heard so many gunshots it “sounded like a war zone.”
Birmingham police, Jefferson County sheriff's deputies, U.S. marshals and ATF agents were involved in the investigation on Orchid Road.
The State Bureau of Investigation will lead an investigation into the shots fired during the incident.
