MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Residents of Mountain Brook have been waiting for a grocery store to return to Mountain Brook Village after the closing of its longtime neighbor, Western Supermarket early this year. That wait will be over June 27, as Publix will open its organic grocery store, GreenWise Market, in the former Western building.

The new concept is centered on healthy food with a majority of organic and all natural products. The store will have a different feel with new department names and different uniforms for the staff. A Birmingham Business Journal report said the Mountain Brook store will be the first one of its kind in Alabama, and will join several Publix GreenWise Market locations in Florida, as well as several that are in the works for seven states throughout the Southeast.

The Mountain Brook store will feature a cafe and bar with seating for about 100 people, and the interior will include high ceilings and exposed beams.
