Road Closings Announced For Busy Weekend Downtown

Several events near Railroad Park have prompted the city to announce street closings in the area this weekend.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A busy weekend is ahead in Birmingham, namely in the area around Railroad Park. Because of the bevy of events in the area, the city announced street closings ahead of the weekend.

The Birmingham Barons this weekend will be in the midst of their five-game series with the Tennessee Smokies at Regions Field, beginning Wednesday. Saturday, there will be a Chick-Fil-A Corporate Challenge at Railroad Park, the Jackie Robinson Street Festival at the Birmingham Negro Southern League Museum, a private wedding at B & A Warehouse and the Bell Center 7th Annual Cornhole Classic at Good People Brewing.

As well, the Magic Moments Birmingham Marathon and Half-Marathon will be held from 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday at Railroad Park.

Saturday closings are as follows:

  • 6 a.m. through 9 p.m., portions of First Avenue South between 14th Street South and 18th Street South.
  • 6 a.m. through 5 p.m., Second Avenue South between 16th Street South and 17th Street South and 16th Street South between First Avenue South and Second Avenue South.
  • 10 a.m. through 9 p.m., portions of 14th Street South between First Avenue South and Third Avenue South.

  • 6 a.m. through 2 p.m., First Avenue South between 14th Street South and 18th Street South.
  • Noon through 8 p.m., portions of 14th Street South between First Avenue South and Third Avenue South.

Beginning Thursday, police will post signs at the affected locations. Any vehicles left on the street in those areas will be towed away beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday to allow for the events.
