Severe Thunderstorms Expected For Birmingham Wednesday Night
A strong band of thunderstorms is expected to sweep through Alabama Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Spring in Alabama wouldn't be normal without a significant amount of rain, but severe weather has been a weekly occurrence in the state over the last month. This week is no exception, as the National Weather Service says strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep through the state Wednesday night.
Meteorologist James Spann said the main window for the storms for the northern half of the state will come from about 10 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday. "Heavier storms could produce strong, gusty winds and some small hail," Spann said. "A brief, isolated tornado is possible, but not likely."

Storms should slowly weaken as they push into east Alabama Thursday morning, Spann said.
Although by Thursday afternoon the chance of showers and storms will be over, another band of storms is forecast to enter Alabama Thursday night, and the weather will be unsettled Friday and Saturday with occasional showers and thunderstorms likely.

"There will be breaks in the rain, and for now the chance of organized severe weather looks low," Spann said. "But a few strong storms can’t be ruled out. Rain amounts between Wednesday night and Saturday will be 2-3 inches for most of the state."
