Snow In Alabama? Forecast Says It Is Possible
Cold temperatures and favorable conditions have meteorologists predicting the possibility of snow in Alabama this week.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A cold front sweeping through Alabama this week could bring some snow to parts of Alabama Monday and Tuesday. But that does not mean residents need to make mad dashes to the grocery store for bread and milk.
"As a deep upper trough swings through, it will squeeze out snow flurries and showers in the cold air over the northern half of the state today and early tonight," meteorologist James Spann said Monday morning. "The main window for snow will come from about 10 a.m. until 8 p.m."
Spann said the snow showers that do fall on Alabama will be moderate, and are not expected to accumulate.

"For now we expect no significant impact or accumulation due to warm ground temperatures, the mostly light nature and short duration of the precipitation, surface temperatures above freezing and strong northwest winds," Spann said. "There is a chance, however, of a 'dusting' on grassy areas across higher terrain of northeast Alabama where heavier snow showers develop."
Freezing temperatures are forecast all the way down to the Gulf Coast, Spann said. "The sky will clear late tonight, and by daybreak Tuesday we project lows between 20 and 26 degrees over the northern half of the state, with a freeze all the way down to the Gulf Coast," he said. "Freeze warnings are in effect for south Alabama (there are no freeze warnings for the northern part of the state since it has already experienced a significant freeze earlier in the season)."
