Tornado Watch Issued For Central Alabama

Jefferson County is one of several Central Alabama areas that is under a tornado watch Monday night.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a tornado warning for most of west and central Alabama Monday night. The watch is in effect until 1 a.m.

"There is a risk of severe thunderstorms from 7 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m. Tuesday for locations near and northwest of Interstate 85," the National Weather Service said in a statement. "This includes a few tornadoes, damaging winds up to 60 mph, and hail up to quarter size."

Counties included in the tornado watch include Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount, Bibb and Tuscaloosa, among others.
