BIRMINGHAM, AL — A flash flood watch is in effect for most of central Alabama as Claudette has now been downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression. The storm swept through Alabama and made its way toward Georgia Saturday afternoon as it weakened.

The flash flood watch is in effect through Sunday evening, and localized flooding remains possible generally south of I-20 and east of I-65, the National Weather Service in Birmingham said.

The latest projected rainfall totals show anywhere from two to four inches of rain through Sunday evening for much of Alabama with some localized amounts up to six inches, especially south of the I-20 corridor.

Meteorologist Scott Martin said by daybreak Sunday, only the eastern half of the state looks to be dealing with any shower activity from Claudette. "By midday, we can officially say goodbye to her," Martin said. "A few scattered showers will remain possible for the rest of the day, but much of the state will be dry."
