Want to Donate to Help Hurricane Harvey Victims? Here's Where to Go in Birmingham

Birmingham residents who wish to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey have plenty of options within city limits.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Amid calls from U.S. officials for assistance, many are looking for ways they can assist in the relief efforts for the Texas and Louisiana residents affected by the extreme flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. There are plenty of ways for Alabama residents to be involved from afar, including hosting displaced families, fostering and adopting homeless pets from the area, or even just donating money and supplies through different charitable networks.

For families wishing to temporarily house victims, AirBnB is offering a "free housing" program, where it will waive the 3 percent fee charged to hosts who accommodate displaced families. There are also multiple Facebook pages matching hosts to displaced families, though these are unverified.

The Greater Birmingham Humane society is also looking for foster homes for animals its volunteer teams retrieved from overpopulated shelters in Louisiana. The shelter has also lowered its fees to $20 to encourage adoptions.
