Broken Water Main In Inverness Delays 280 Traffic
A broken water main on US 280 in Inverness caused increased delays on the highway Wednesday morning.

SHELBY COUNTY, AL - US Highway 280 was closed to all westbound traffic at Greenhill Parkway in the Inverness area due to a broken water main around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning causing major delays for morning traffic. Crews had one lane open by 8:15 a.m., and by 9 a.m. all lanes of traffic had opened.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office advises that drivers still use caution in this area and keep watch for water works crews.
Birmingham Water Works is planning to activate its emergency water purchase agreement with Shelby County Water to accelerate restoration of water services to customers until normal water delivery operations from BWW can resume. The company said it's unknown what exactly caused the break.
