Despite Petition, Hoover Students Will Not Get Day Off Nov. 1
Hoover students launched an online petition to get the day after Halloween off, but school officials are not likely to budge.
HOOVER, AL — Students in the Hoover school system want to enjoy Halloween to the fullest, and some feel that having to attend school the day after Halloween hinders the holiday. This is the reason for an online petition launched this week to get Nov. 1 off of school.
The petition was launched on change.org, and states, "Halloween is the most enjoyed holiday. Getting free candies in neighborhoods, hanging with friends, and watching scary movies. This holiday might be fun but the night after many people will be tired. From staying up late at night or eating so much candy! Including teachers that have kids. We should not have school on this holiday. We should be able to have the day off. If this is not possible we should have a free day at school which means no work."
The petition already has more than 2,700 signatures. Similar petitions in Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook were also launched this week, but neither school system has announced whether or not the day off will be granted.

However, officials from Hoover City Schools addressed the petition Tuesday, saying, "We have no plans to modify this year’s calendar for a non-emergency event."
