Hindu Temple Opening In Hoover

Plans have been announced to convert a 38,000-square-foot movie theater in Hoover to a Hindu temple.

HOOVER, AL — What was once a movie theater in Hoover will soon become a Hindu temple, pending approval from the City of Hoover. The Hoover Planning Commission recommended the plan for the 38,000-square-foot AMC theater on Lorna Road in Hoover to the Hoover City Council Monday, according to the Hoover Sun.

"In view of reportedly rising population of Hindus in Alabama, raising more Hindu temples would help the community to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society," Rajan Zed, the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, said in a statement.

The congregation has been in the Birmingham area since 1980, according to the Hoover Sun report.
