Hoover Met To Host Barbecue Cook-Off Saturday

The Hoover Met will be the site of a barbecue cook-off to raise money for scholarships for children of first responders.

HOOVER, AL - The Hoover Metropilitan Stadoim will be the site of a barbecue cook-off Saturday, an event dubbed "So You Think You Can Cook?" The cook-off is raising funds for college scholarships for children of first responders.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and includes more than 20 teams. The $10 admission fee includes barbecue, doughnuts from Heavenly Donuts, cookies from Bud’s Best Cookies, ice cream, potato chips, Coca-Cola and a beer ticket from Birmingham Budweiser. Admission is free for children 10 and younger.

In addition to the barbecue, the event will include live music, a disc jockey, inflatables and prize giveaways, he said. Judging likely will start about 12:30 p.m., and the winners are expected to be announced about 2 p.m

According to the Hoover Sun, all money raised from the event will go toward $2,000 scholarships for children of first responders. Applications are distributed to schools and police and fire departments in the metro area, and applicants must write an essay that will be judged by a college English teacher.
