Hoover Schools To Shift To Full Time In-Person Classes

Hoover City Schools announced they will switch to five days a week of in-person classes for those who have chosen the traditional option.

HOOVER, AL — Hoover City Schools announced they will switch to five days a week of in-person classes for those who have chosen in-person instruction. Superintendent Dr. Kathy Murphy sent the announcement to parents and students Monday.

"For those students who have chosen in-person instruction for this school year, we plan to shift to five (5) days of in-person instruction beginning Monday, September 21, 2020," Murphy said in her statement. "That said, we will continue to follow the COVID numbers and allow science to inform our decision-making."

Murphy said that shifting in-person instruction to five days a week will supersede the existing staggered schedule, but households that chose full-time virtual learning will continue with that option.

Hoover schools have operated on a staggered schedule up to now, as many of the Birmingham metro's systems have done. When the announcement was made regarding the staggered schedule, Murphy said the schedule would be implemented for the first four weeks of school, then would be re-evaluated.

"I realize the decisions we're making are having an impact on families and their ability to get back to work," Murphy said in a statement to the school board August 4. "I have not found the perfect solution. I just found the best of no good options."
