Hoover Zoning Board Approves PetSuites Plan
Although the city council has denied a business license to the PetSuites owners, the zoning board has breathed new life into the project.

HOOVER, AL - After being denied a business license by the Hoover City Council in November, the owners of a proposed PetSuites facility have has new life brathed ito their project, as the Hoover Zoning Board has approved a revised plan for the 14,000-square foot facility.
The PetSuites Resort facility is proposed for 2 acres between the CVS at Shades Crest Road and the office building holding a UAB medical clinic.. It would have 140 pet suites and could hold up to 182 dogs when dogs from the same family share a suite. Each suite would have a TV and raised beds with cushions for the dogs, with solid walls between the suites so dogs that are not from the same family would not see each other, according to the developer.
A Hoover Sun report said that Charlie Beavers, an attorney for PetSuites Resort, told the zoning board that a noise study from a PetSuites Resort in Georgia showed no barking dogs could be heard from outside the facility when the dogs were inside. The dogs were heard when they came outside to play in groups or take restroom breaks, and that noise level was no greater than the ambient noise coming from a nearby four-lane highway, he said.

PetSuites Resort has reportedly agreed to keep the dogs inside at all times in its Hoover location, however. The elimination of the space used normally for keeping the pets outside means the developers now would like to move the facility closer to John Hawkins Parkway. The building relocation will allow the company to add more magnolia trees behind the building, improving the sound and visual buffers for neighbors even more.
