Hoover's First Fire Chief Thomas Bradley Dies

HOOVER, AL — A longtime Hoover public servant died Saturday. Chief Thomas Bradley, who was the Hoover Fire Department's first full-time chief, served from 1976 to 2009. He was 92 years old at the time of his death.

Bradley began his fire service career with Bessemer Fire Department, and later transferred to Birmingham Fire Department where he served the City of Birmingham for more than 20 years, retiring as a Captain.

"Chief Bradley led the department with distinction during a period of rapid growth within the department and the city," the Hoover Fore Department said in a statement. "Chief Bradley is a well respected leader in the fire service and will be greatly missed. Please lift up Chief Bradley’s family in your prayers as well as his extended fire service family during this difficult time."

Funeral services for Bradley will be held Dec. 10 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 11 a.m.
