Kayak Pro Shop To Open In Shelby County
A store dedicated to kayaks and kayak accessories will open in metro Birmingham later this month.
PELHAM, AL — Kayaking is one of the fastest-growing activities in the country, and now those who participate in the sport have a specialty store in the Birmingham metro area to frequent for all their needs. The Yak Shak is expected to open in Pelham later in November.
A Birmingham Business Journal report said the new store will open at 2649 Pelham Parkway in the Pelham Promenade.
Inventory at the store — which will hold its grand opening Nov. 23 — will include a variety of kayaking goods, in addition to fishing and clothing items.

A 2017 study by Statista shows there were approximately 15.99 million participants in kayaking in the U.S., compared to 6.1 million in 2006.
