Spain Park Captures Girls State Basketball Title
Spain Park held on to defeat cross-town rival Hoover in the AHSAA girls basketball championship game.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — The battle for city-wide basketball supremacy in Hoover Saturday also happened to be the battle for statewide supremacy, as Spain Park and Hoover faced off in the 7A girls state finals at the BJCC Legacy Arena. Spain Park edged the Lady Bucs 47-44 to capture the state championship.
Avery Masdon paced the Jags in scoring with 12, while Sarah Ashley Barker put in another superb performance, finishing with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
The Jags had a commanding 21-10 halftime lead, but the Bucs were strong in the second half, and were within 2 points with just a minute left in the game. Hoover's leading scorer was Reniya Kelly who put in 23 points.

The championship is Spain Park's second in three seasons.
