#StandUpForBen By Eating Free Wings At Wing Zone

Wednesday, Dec. 6, all Wing Zone locations will donate $1 to the Ben Abercrombie Fund for every free wing order it fulfills.

HOOVER, AL — Those familiar with Bucs Football will know and remember superstar safety Ben Abercrombie from 2017’s graduating class. Not only did Abercrombie glean attention from the Hoover community, he turned the heads of Harvard Crimson recruiters. Abercrombie was successful in gaining admission to Harvard, earning an academic scholarship, and also made his way onto the football team as a defensive back. But then his first collegiate game experience, Harvard vs. Rhode Island on Sept. 16 in Providence was stopped short — he sustained a major spinal injury during a tackle in the second quarter, according to The Hoover Sun.

Abercrombie, now recovering at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, receives therapy six days a week, and is kept company by his parents, Marty and Sherri, who have temporarily relocated to be with their son. The cost of Ben’s recovery has been continuing to grow, but the communities of Hoover and the Harvard Varsity Club, among others, are raising support to help cover costs. Awareness for Ben’s medical and travel expenses for the family will go nationwide tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 6 by way of Wing Zone’s 80 locations — including the Hoover and Tuscaloosa storefronts owned and operated by Marty Abercrombie.

All U.S. Wing Zone locations are offering five free boneless wings to any customer tomorrow, Dec. 6, no purchase required. For every free wing order fulfilled, $1 will be donated to the Ben Abercrombie Fund. CEO and co-founder of Wing Zone, Matt Friedman, told The Hoover Sun that the company is expecting $10,000 to $15,000 to be raised by the event.
