Here are the top five stories today in Huntsville:
- FBI Director Christopher Wray was in Huntsville yesterday to celebrate the groundbreaking of the FBI’s new Innovation Center at the Arsenal. He was joined by Sens. Richard Shelby and Tommy Tuberville at the site of the new FBI campus. When it is completed, the campus will be an investment of over $1 billion. (AL.com)
- Huntsville is recovering from the pandemic faster than most of the country and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to be completely back to pre-pandemic numbers by the end of the year. The city has been a model of good communication with businesses and the community for the CDC during the pandemic. (WAAY)
- 305 8th Street and United Women of Color were awarded the WZDX and TEGNA Foundation award Community Grants. United Women of Color plans to use the grant money for their youth development program to help middle school girls have confidence and set them on the path to pursue their future. 305 8th Street is planning to use the funds to help waterproof and updates on one of their properties, as well as to help offset costs of care for disabled individuals that live in their community. - 15 deaf and hard of hearing students from around the country are attending the fifth annual GenCyber Camp at UAH. This camp helps train the campers to prepare to work in cybersecurity and computer tech. GenCyber has several partnerships, such as one with the Rochester Institute of Technology, to ensure the best experience for campers. (Patch)
- Huntsville High School hosted the first 7 on 7 Passing Tournament. 16 local football teams played one another to earn bragging rights, and it was a good opportunity for coaches to see their teams in action before the season starts. Bob Jones won the tournament, the trophy, and bragging rights. (WHNT)
