- The city’s action plan for improving the Huntsville Police Department after the report from last summer’s protests came out in April is expected to be distributed to city council members by the end of this week. According to members of the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council, the report was well-received by local administration and leadership in the police department and all parties are ready to get to work. - Construction has started at Bridge Street for Main Event, a family entertainment center. They are set to open in 2022 and will offer experiences like bowling, zip lining, and laser tag. (WAAY)
- Free2Teach, an organization started by the late Eula Battle in an effort to help teachers pay for classroom supplies so that they do not have to pay out of their own pockets, celebrated the end of 10 years and $8 million. They haven’t stopped to celebrate, though, and are instead focused on the upcoming school year and getting supplies in the hands of students and teachers. Free2Teach has launched a ten for ten fundraising campaign to get $10 donations for 10 years. (WAAY)
- 106 Jefferson, a Hilton hotel set to open downtown later this summer, has just announced their dining concepts. There will be a restaurant open for all three meals and a rooftop bar. The bar will be called Baker and Able after the first primates that survived space travel, which was in a Huntsville-built Jupiter rocket. (WHNT)
- Calhoun Community College’s Instant Admission Days are set to kick off tomorrow at 1 p.m. for veterans and veteran dependents. There are dates set up throughout the rest of the summer, so if you’ve been waiting for a quick and easy way to apply to college, now is your chance! (WHNT)
