Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:

  1. There is currently a proposal concerning bylaws about when public comments are allowed during Huntsville City Council meetings that will be addressed at Thursday’s meeting. The new proposal would allow for public comments about things on the agenda to be at the beginning of the meeting, and comments not directed at the agenda would be at the end of the meeting. This is a concern to individuals that feel this is targeted at minimizing voices, especially those wanting to talk about police reform. (WAAY)
  2. Calhoun Community College has partnered with Huntsville Hospital to offer a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program that would be accelerated into five weeks. The program would give instructional time as well as hands-on time in clinics. After successfully completing the program, participants are guaranteed a position as a CNA at a Huntsville Hospital system facility. (E News Courier)
  3. Both of the prosecutors in the William Darby case as well as the Christopher Henderson case have been promoted. Tim Gann is the new Chief Deputy District Attorney and Tim Douthit will be replacing Gann as the Chief Trial Attorney. (WHNT)
  4. Huntsville Hospital has awarded $500,000 to be split between 12 local health agencies. The groups include CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) and the Community Free Clinic and are groups that help underserved populations in the area. (WHNT)
  5. The Huntsville Post Office is demanding masks be worn at the Wynn Drive location. This is not required by city or state ordinances or the U.S. Postal Service. According to a statement from the Postal Service, they are in the midst of figuring out how to address individuals with uncertain vaccination statuses. (WAAY)
