Happy Father’s Day weekend, Rocket City! It's time to celebrate your dads, granddads, moms that do it all, or whoever that figure is in your life! Today also marks the first federally and state recognized Juneteenth. In this weekend’s Daily, we’ll look at a partnership between Oakwood and Huntsville Hospital, how Mueller Water Products is handling Tuesday’s shooting, and a jam-packed weekend of Father’s Day and Juneteenth events!

  1. Oakwood University and Huntsville Hospital will be cutting the ribbon on their new community action center Monday at 10:30 a.m. The new center will help provide ambulatory care for community members and students and employees at the university. It will also offer services such as after school programs, job referrals, and health education. (WHNT)
  2. The Food Bank of North Alabama is working to prep for an expected increase in need in the coming weeks with the end of federal unemployment benefits in the state. This is also a busy season for the food bank with students getting out of school for the summer. (WHNT)
  3. Mueller Water Products, the site of Tuesday’s fatal shooting, has announced they will be closed through Monday while paying employees regular wages. The company is paying for the funerals of both employees that were lost. A Go Fund Me has been set up for the families, and Mueller is paying all administrative fees to the fundraiser. (AL.com)
  4. Madison has been listed as one of the big cities in Alabama with the lowest unemployment rate at 1.9% for the month of May. This is below the state average of 3.4%, which dropped from April at 3.6%. (WTVY)
  5. Huntsville City Schools’ COVID-19 vaccine clinic will host the first dose Thursday, June 24. This clinic is open to students 12 and up and will be at the Huntsville High School gym. Students under 14 must have a parent or guardian present, and participants must sign a consent form. You must make an appointment ahead of time. (WAFF)

  • Dads get in free Sunday at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center with one paid admission. (11 a.m.)

  • Juneteenth Celebration at The Camp (2 p.m.)
  • Greater Huntsville Juneteenth Freedom Festival @ Lakeside United Methodist Church (11 a.m.)
  • 2nd Annual Huntsville’s Black Market: A Juneteenth Celebration @ the VBC East Hall (11 a.m.)
  • Food Truck and Grill Fest @ Campus 805 (All Weekend)
