Its finally the weekend, Rocket City! In this weekend's Daily, we'll look at No Kill Huntsville's latest move, expectations with gas prices as we gear up for the holiday weekend coming up, and a former Huntsville student playing against the Trash Pandas.
First, the weekend weather:
There will be scattered showers throughout the weekend. Saturday's high will be 89 and the low will be 71 and Sunday has a high of 88 and a low of 69.

Here are the top five stories in Huntsville this weekend:
- No Kill Huntsville has decided to send a letter to city officials. The letter was posted in its entirety on their social media, and they make requests that have been made multiple times, such as making the hours at Huntsville Animal Services more family-friendly so people can make it there after work. They have also had issues with the current protocol on handling dogs that they decide to euthanize without notifying rescues to give them time to pull the dog from the shelter. (No Kill Huntsville)
- If you’re planning to travel over the Fourth of July weekend, get ready for a big spike in gas prices. According to Gas Buddy, prices in north Alabama are expected to jump up to 43% more than they were this time last year. (WHNT)
- Three Huntsville Police Department Lieutenants were promoted to Captains. Lt. John Ware was named Captain of the Division of Professional Standards and Training, Lt. Jesse Sumlin is now Captain of the North Precinct, and Lt. Jerry King became Captain of the South Precinct. Between the three new Captains, there are more than 60 years of law enforcement experience. - Former UAH head hockey coach Mike Corbett has been named an assistant coach for Quinnipiac’s men’s hockey team. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the USA Hockey Under 17 team that will be traveling to Switzerland in August. (USCHO)
- A former Huntsville High student, Graham Ashcraft, faced the Trash Pandas in a near-perfect game against the Trash Pandas. Ashcraft threw six perfect innings before giving up a hit in the seventh inning. (MILB)
