Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:
- In a hearing Monday, a judge ruled that the civil case against William Darby and the City of Huntsville should not have further delays. She also determined that testimonies for the civil case can not be taken before Darby’s sentencing in August. Darby, still a paid employee by the city, was not present. (WAAY)
- A judge has set September 15 as the end to settlement negotiations in the case of 3M vs Decatur, Morgan County, and Decatur Utilities. The case has been in mediation for over three years. If there is not a resolution by this deadline, the judge said the parties should prepare to go to trial. (WHNT)
- The Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) headquarters at the Arsenal, better known as the 4200 building, will be torn down. It has already been decommissioned. The 4200 building has been the Center Director’s office location since Wernher von Braun’s tenure. (WHNT)
- Sixteen boys basketball teams joined at Huntsville High School from all over Alabama and Tennessee. The Hazel Green boys was the 2021 Big Red Summer Jam champ, but the tournament is more about getting a chance to compete and for coaches to see their teams play before the season starts. (WHNT)
- Eleven boys from Limestone County will be participating in Alabama Boys State this year. The boys went to an orientation that was held by the Athens American Legion Post 49, where they heard from former Boys State representatives from Limestone County. (News Courier)
