Birmingham Bulls' Justin Larson Named Player Of The Week

The undefeated Birmingham Bulls lead the Southern Professional Hockey League at 6-0, and one reason is the play of Justin Larson.

PELHAM, AL - The Southern Professional Hockey League today announced Justin Larson of the Birmingham Bulls as the Warrior Player of the Week for November 5-11.

Larson scored three goals, including one game-winner, added three assists and was +4 as Birmingham took a pair of games from Quad City to stay a perfect 6-0 on the season. The Bulls’ six-game winning streak to begin a season is just one shy of the league record set by Huntsville at the start of the 2010-11 season.

Friday, the Buckhorn, ON, native led the Bulls as they rallied from a five-goal deficit to defeat Quad City 6-5 in overtime. After assisting on Birmingham’s first goal with 49 seconds remaining in the second period, Larson scored two of Birmingham’s three goals in a span of 1:59 midway through the third period to pull the Bulls to within two. Then, with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, Larson assisted on the tying goal with just 50 seconds remaining in regulation. Larson capped the improbable comeback by scoring the game-winner 1:46 into overtime, finishing off his hat trick and earning his fifth point of the evening. The following night, Larson assisted on Birmingham’s first goal in a 2-1 win over the Storm.
