Death Investigation Under Way By Shelby County Sheriff's Office
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death over the weekend on Highway 77.
SHELBY COUNTY, AL -The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death that may have been the result of a domestic dispute at a home on Highway 77 over the weekend.
A report by the SCSO said at approximately 9:07 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, Shelby County Sheriff's deputies received a call to the 3700 block of Shelby County Highway 77 on a report of a domestic violence-related shooting.
Deputies arrived on scene and reportedly found Calvin J. Ray, 19 years of age from Columbiana, deceased. Investigators, along with the Shelby County Coroner's Office, were called to the scene.

Sheriff’s investigators said they believe that Calvin Ray had been shot and killed by his brother, Jalen Ray. Following the initial shooting, Jalen Ray encountered another family member, and Jalen Ray was shot and injured.

Jalen K. Ray, 18 years old from Columbiana, has been charged with Murder and Attempted Murder and is being held in the Shelby County Jail with a combined bond of $180,000. At this time, there are no other pending charges against the other involved family member. The official cause of death for Calvin Ray is pending an autopsy by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
