Helena Advances To Baseball Semifinals

Helena remained undefeated in state baseball playoff action, sweeping Spanish Fort to advance to the semifinals.

HELENA, AL - The Helena Huskies are another step closer to a second consecutive baseball state championship, and they have executed their march through the playoffs in dominating fashion.

Helena put together a pair of 6-run wins to sweep Spanish Fort in the quarterfinals, as the Huskies have been undefeated thus far in playoff action. Pitchers Richard Fitts and Landon Green each threw complete games as the Huskies won 9-3 in Game One and 6-0 in Game Two.

Six Helena players had at least one hit in the opener. John Stephen Heacock’s three-run double was the big blow in the second-inning explosion. In Game 2, No. 9 hitter Trevor Bell went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. The Huskies put the lead-off man on base in every inning and had five successful sacrifices

Helena will travel to Tuscaloosa to Face Hillcrest in the semifinal series Friday.
