HELENA, AL - The issue of safe driving has been a vital issue since the invention of the automobile, yet traffic deaths still occur at an alarming rate. Now, with mobile phones, cars equipped with more electronic devices and the lingering problem of impaired driving still claiming the lives of thousands of drivers, safe driving cannot be stressed enough, especially with teens. This is why the message of the Lutzie 43 Foundation is important. And students at Helena High School will hear that message this week.

Mike Lutzenkirchen, father of the late Auburn football star Philip Lutzenkirchen, will be speaking to the students of Helena High School, on Thursday, March 15th. Mike will speak to the students about the foundation's new initiative, 43 Key Seconds, a safe driving initiative that works to create the first nationally recognized symbol for distracted and impaired driving awareness.

Mike's message and the reason for creating this initiative are to prevent what happened to Philip from happening to others. Philip lost his life in 2014 as a passenger in a drunk and impaired driving related accident. Philip was not wearing his seatbelt and was ultimately thrown from the car and passed away on impact.
