New Interim Police Chief Named For Pelham
Mayor Gary Waters has appointed Pat Cheatwood as interim Police Chief of Pelham.

PELHAM, AL - A new face will be at the helm of the Pelham Police Department - at least on a temporary basis. Pelham Mayor Gary Waters has appointed Pat Cheatwood as interim Police Chief, after the retirement of Larry Palmer.
Cheatwood was hired by Pelham PD in 2000. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in February 2007 and Lieutenant in 2015. He's served as the Administrative Captain since February 2017.
He is a graduate of the 275th Session of the FBI National Academy. Participation is by invitation only, and officers are nominated by their agency heads because of demonstrated leadership qualities.

Cheatwood started his career as a police officer in Oxford, Ala., in 1995. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University.
Palmer had been chief of the department since 2015 and has been serving the residents of Pelham as an officer for more than 30 years.
