Panthers Win 6A State Volleyball Championship

The Pelham Panthers captured the state title Thursday, capping off 41-9 2017 season.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Pelham High School Panthers captured the Class 6A State Volleyball Championship Thursday, winning in a thrilling final match against Jasper in the Bill Harris Arena in downtown Birmingham. The win caps off a 41-9 season for the Panthers.

After facing championship point, the Panthers scored four straight and took the next game to win the title. Emorie Long was named as the tournament MVP, and joined teammates Georgia Stonicher and Sarah Guthrie on the All-Tournament Team.

This was the third volleyball state championship for Pelham, as the Panthers won state titles in 1993 and 1997. The championship is the 11th sports title for the school - three volleyball, five girls track and field, two baseball and one boys soccer championships.
