SHELBY COUNTY, AL - It is that time of year again - spring cleaning, of course - and that means not only purging your garage of clutter and old items, but also your medicine cabinet. This Saturday, April 27, several locations will be open to accept old, unused or expired prescriptions that might be in Shelby County residents' homes.

Shelby County residents may drop off prescription and over-the-counter pills (no liquids or needles) at the following locations between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday:

  • Pelham Recreation Center: 2020 Ballpark Road
  • Dick's Sporting Goods (Alabaster): 200 South Colonial Drive
  • Winn Dixie: 200 Chelsea Corners Way
  • Greystone YMCA: 5414 Hwy 280
  • Hoover City Hall: 100 Municipal Dr.
  • Montevallo Drug: 3990 AL 25

The last Take-Back Day brought in more than 900,000 pounds of unused or expired prescription medication nationally. This brings the total amount of prescription drugs collected by DEA since the fall of 2010 to 10,878,950 pounds.
