Shelby County Drug Take-Back Day Is This Weekend

The Shelby COunty "Drug Take-Back Day" is Oct. 28.

SHELBY COUNTY, AL - Several pharmacies across Shelby County are participating in a countywide "Drug take-back day," wherein people can return unwanted or unused prescription medications. The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force is partnering with the Pelham Police Department, the Alabaster Police Department and the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office to hold the drug take-back day on Saturday, Oct. 28

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., law enforcement officers will man the following five drop-off locations:

  • Fred’s at 21665 Alabama 25 in Columbiana
  • The Greystone YMCA at 5414 U.S. 280 in Birmingham
  • The Pelham Police Department at 32 Philip Davis St.
  • Target at 250 South Colonial Drive in Alabaster
  • Winn Dixie at 150 Chelsea Corners in Chelsea

Officers will be available at each location to answer questions and distribute information. The take-back is a “no questions asked” event for those dropping off prescription medications, and those wishing to remain anonymous can mark through their information on the pill bottle in permanent marker.
