Shelby County makes the top of SmartAsset's list of counties in Alabama for best annual Social Security Benefits Usage.
SHELBY COUNTY, AL — Have you ever wondered how far your annual Social Security benefits stretch compared to the average cost of living for your area? According to The Birmingham Business Journal, a study conducted by SmartAsset, a financial tech company, has listed Shelby County at the top of their list for counties in the state where benefits stretch the farthest.
Shelby County’s cost of living totals just over $20,000, with the average Social Security income of just over $19,500. SmartAsset concluded that the county’s annual Social Security index is 77.34 on a 100 point scale.
